Stark
County was created in 1882 and was named after the manager of one of the
railroads crossing North Dakota at the time.
The county is just under 1,350 square miles in size and has a population of 22,636, according to the last census. The number of inhabitants has remained stable in the last decade and was forecast to decline slightly to 22,000 in 2005. The highest number of inhabitants of the county was in the 1980s, when over 23,000 people called Stark County their home.
