Dunn County InformationDunn County

Dunn CountyDunn County is another rural county on the western side of North Dakota which was only organized in the first decade of the 20th century.

The county is named after a Bismarck trader, John Piatt Dunn, who had opened the first drug store in the state, and was officially organized in 1908.

The county is slightly more than 2,000 square miles in size and has a population of 3,536, according to the last census. The population has been in long-term decline since its high point of over 9,500 in the 1930s. In the last 10 years, the population fell by nearly two per cent.

The county seat of Dunn County is the unincorporated community of Manning, with a population of under 100. This has been the case since its foundation although these days most administrative functions are located in the more sizeable city of Killdeer.

Dunn County is surrounded by McKenzie County, Mountrail County and McLean County to the north, by Mercer County to the east, by Stark County to the south and by Billings County to the west.
