Minot
City Information
Minot was founded towards the end of the 19th century and is named after a former railways director who was killed in a train accident a few years after the city was incorporated. The railway settlement was known as "Magic City" because of the growth in size and population prompted by its stature as a transport hub.
Minot featured as a central distribution and sales point for the surrounding agricultural areas and, during Prohibition, as a main stop on the route for bootleggers. Minot's somewhat isolated position and the decline in railroad traffic and agriculture has meant that the town has been active in attempting to attract private business. Tourism and service industries are now a main source of income, along with the air force base to the north of the town.
